A one-day workshop was held the day prior to the demonstration installation project to instruct participants in the principles, planning, design, and cost estimating aspects of soft engineering techniques.

Participants at the workshop included representatives from several private engineering firms, City of Ann Arbor, conservation districts, Huron River Watershed Council, Huron Clinton Metropolitan Authority, Michigan Department of Transportation, The University of Michigan and the Washtenaw County Road Commission.
